This policy sets forth the requirements for the conduct of Classified Research at the University.

The University permits employees the opportunity to engage in classified research. However, the primary mission of research universities is to disseminate information and advance knowledge in all academic fields. This policy seeks to ensure that Classified Research furthers the University’s mission of research, education and public service and is done in compliance with applicable federal law and regulations. In approving Classified Research, consideration will be given to the restrictions on publications, use of graduate students, the humanitarian nature of the research and the appropriateness of the scientific inquiry within the university environment.
